California Flower Lovers' Quick Facts

California is a state of grand scale, both in terms of population and land mass. The state offers seemingly endless opportunities and things to do: celebrity-spotting in Beverly Hills, surfing in San Diego, or cruising across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco are just a handful ways to experience the big "Cali" cities. The state flower is the golden California Poppy.

Outside of the cities are seemingly limitless options for seeing breathtaking scenery and landscapes. The northern half of the state boasts captivating mountains and magnificent forests and coastline. Yosemite National Park and the Redwood Forest are among the enjoyable destinations for outdoor activities.

California is unique in that it is the only state in the U.S. with a Mediterranean Climate (cool, rainy winters and long, dry summers). This climate is ideal for growing an array of delightful produce like artichokes, avocados, and strawberries. Many flowers are unique to California and, because of that, have earned titles like the Caifornia Fuschia and the California Poppy. The state is also the native home to flowers like the dainty Baby Blue Eyes and the luscious Chocolate Lily.

Gardens in the west coast state are easy to find. The bountiful selection includes the Getty Museum Gardens in Los Angeles, the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, or the Balboa Park Rose Garden in San Diego.

If a view of stationary flowers seems commonplace, take a trip to Pasadena on New Year's Day to see thousands flowers pass by on parade floats. The Tournament of Roses Parade is a century-old tradition that treats spectators to the beautiful scents and colors of flowers for festive holiday entertainment. Send two dozen roses with bubble bath from KaBloom for a relaxing reminiscence of the rose parade.
