Happy almost Spring! We here at KaBloom are so excited to say so long to the winter, and we figured you are too. So, that’s why we wanted to bring to your attention a little-known holiday that actually is one of our favorites. You probably haven’t heard of it, but it’s an easy and fun holiday to celebrate. So, on March 12th, why not celebrate National Plant a Flower Day?
You heard us right! There is a whole day devoted to planting a flower, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Unlike many holidays, it is hard to trace the origins of the holiday, especially since the holiday celebrates such a commonly done activity. Now, the directions are pretty easy: go out and plant a flower, or even many! Go to your local nursery and get flowers, then plant them in your backyard. Or, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, plant seeds to watch your garden truly bloom from its start. It’s your way of celebrating the arrival of Spring and a great way to symbolize growth, all while getting a head start on your garden. Of course, depending on where you live, it might not be the best idea to plant a flower outside. But that’s no problem, you can still celebrate the holiday by planting a flower indoors. If you want, you can even move the flower outside once the weather gets a little better.
National Plant a Flower Day is about more than just planting a flower. By participating in the holiday, you’re ultimately celebrating and continuing the beauty of nature. It can also be a good educational experience, or even a bonding experience. Plant flowers with your family to start a garden. Or, use it as a teaching moment to show what nature is capable of and the importance of nurturing and protecting it. Children will undoubtedly find a sense of wonder in watching something they started grow from a small seed to a beautiful flower. If your town or city has a community garden, this would be a great place to go, adding your own personal touch to the garden while helping continue to spread the beauty of nature. Even if there’s a place you pass that looks like it could use some color and vibrancy, plant some flowers there. Just make sure that it’s public property and actually okay to plant there!
Celebrating National Plant a Flower Day is the perfect transition from winter to spring. Even though it seems like such a simple holiday, there is a great importance to it. Promoting and maintaining the beauty of nature not only creates a pleasant visual, but it helps our planet, and every little bit helps.
